(known affectionately as Pebble Pups)
Youth Program Coordinator, COMMUNITY EDUCATION
We don't have a Youth Program Coordinator at this time, we will still have programs at the club meetings. Different members will be in charge of the youth program at the club meeting until we get a Youth Program Coordinator. If anyone is interested in this position, contact Dick Weber President.
Young members, typically under age 14, are invited to attend interesting workshops which help teach aspects about geology, general science, and various crafts. These run at the same time as the business portion of the meeting, and are usually before the presentation of the night's program.
2010 Youth/Pebble Pup Activity
This month in the Pebble Pup activities: Mini Miners Monthly News: This is a letter received from the publisher of Mini Miners Monthly. It will be good for our youth programs and monthly bulletins.
Dear Friends of the CFMS, Good day! My name is Darryl Powell and I am the publisher of Mini Miners Monthly, the only monthly publication for young mineral collectors. At the CFMS Annual Meeting late in 2009, your Board of Directors voted to purchase for every club and society in the CFMS that has a Junior's Program a 2-year subscription to Mini Miners Monthly. You will receive this publication by email every month (usually the early part of the second week of the month). This subscription is given to you to enhance your educational work with your young people. (Quite honestly, the adults enjoy it, too!) YOU HAVE PERMISSION to reproduce up to 5 pages of Mini Miners material every month. You can use it in your newsletters; you can use it on your websites; you can make copies of these selected pages (you choose the pages you want to use) and hand them out and use them at your meetings. Throughout the year, I will also be seeking the input of your children: they can write articles, draw pictures, give reports about collecting trips, send pictures of club meetings . . . it is my desire to publish your material in future issues of Mini Miners. Most sincerely, Darryl Powell (aka Diamond Dan)

“Fun with Fossils” Arnie Rudman |
Collecting fossils throughout the western United States | This month we have a special treat for our Pebble Pups. Arnie Rudman will present a youth program “Fun with Fossils”. Arnie has collected fossils throughout the western United States and has some great items to show and stories to tell. Pebble Pups will start at 7:30 PM this month because of room availability. Last month Jacob Walker, one of our newer youth members, presented a terrific slide program based on his experiences during the Western States field trip he took this summer with the club. Great job, Jacob. I think this is the first time a youth program has been developed and presented by one of their own. |
