Robert Sankovich, Mike Miller VP Field Trips
These are the Conejo's field trips, with our club, Oxnard & Ventura, which makes the tri-clubs, allows for a greater variety of sites to visit, and the benefits of other peoples experiences. If you decide to go on a field trip, please contact Robert Sankovich, CGMC/VGMS, rmsorca@adelphia.net 805-494-7734 or Mike Miller, CGMC, 805-530-3744 or Ron Wise, VGMS/OGMS, 805-794-0737 clintwise@hotmail.com Sometimes field trips can be canceled due to weather or other circumstances, if we don't know your going we won't be able to notify you. I have a new Truck, it's a White Ford F250 4x4 Crewcab so if your looking for me, look for my truck.
There will be a flyer, map and usually sample specimens at the club meetings. Field trips are a great way to get to know other members and make new friends.
Attending the monthly general meeting, or reading the bulletin and contacting the Field-Trip Chairman are two ways to "sign up" for and confirm an upcoming outing.
Rock-hounding expeditions are typically scheduled on a monthly basis and generally involve 2 to 8 vehicles with 3 to 20 people travelling 1 to 10 hours to remote locations where either free access is allowed or the Conejo Gem and Mineral Club has been given rights or privileges to collect material following "hand collecting" codes of conduct. Some trips suggest an overnight stay in a nearby hotel or campsite and can be a fun weekend for the family. Guests are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a member. *All field trips are FREE, except where noted*. Incidental fees/costs, transportation, food, hotels/motels, campgrounds, parking, etc. are up to the individual to pay. The actual field trip is free*. Most costs on field trips is the gas for your vehicle, and you can pack a lunch. You may elect to camp out overnight or stay in a nearby motel if an overnight stay is scheduled. We also welcome daytime collectors who want to just spend a few hours at the site during the day even if the outing is a 2 or 3 day trip.

Upcoming Field Trips 2010:
Road Trip-2011, Won't happen in this year, Things have come up and I can't go at this time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
The Field Trip e-mail list is working, members have current, new information as I finish it. I get field trip information from other clubs at different times during the month, some with too short of notice for me to put in our bulletin. I will send direct monthly information, maps on club field trips, and updates on weather, other last minute factors that can affect field trips. If you want to sign up, no e-mail addresses will be printed, posted anywhere. Send me your e-mail addresses to mine below. The information is current and I'll keep updating as I add field trips. 2010 is here, the last few months the weather keeps getting warmer so we will go earlier or to places that are cooler. This time of year the weather is getting hotter so the times will be earlier, make sure we know you will be going, this applies to all field trips. I'd like members to let me know of places they'd like to go to? Were going to go to sites we've been to, but were going to have new sites. I do have several in mind. I've got most of 2010 field trips above, I'll be adding more later. The weather seems to change a lot and the economy can control our field trips, the dates above are fixed where there is a date the others I'm working it out. There's going to be a field trip for everyone, we'll have some close to home, and out of state trips. Easy and harder field trips requiring chisels, sledges. Something for everyone hopefully. Most of the time I make sure I check out the sites, so when it finally becomes a field trip it can take time. Check out the website for updates. We've been getting good turnouts of rock hounds for our field trips, the upcoming field trips offer a diversity of collecting. With the weather cooler we will be heading out to the desert for collecting. Field trips are fun and you will find some nice specimens and make new friends. I find most people on field trips are friendly and nice willing to share in their knowledge and experiences.
See you there.

U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management News Release CA Desert District, Release Date: 05/17/10 BLM Sets Restrictions for Campfires and Barbeques in California Desert Due to Rising Fire Danger http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/newsroom/2010/may/cdd_fire_restrictions.htm Due to the danger of wildfires, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is requiring permits for campfires and barbeques on public lands in the California Desert. On other BLM public lands in Southern California, all campfires and barbeques are prohibited outside of developed recreation areas. Teri Raml, BLM Desert District Manager, said the restrictions are necessary due to rising seasonal temperatures combined with dry vegetation. "Above normal rainfall this spring treated us all to a spectacular bloom of wildflowers in the California Desert," she said. "Unfortunately that moisture and vegetative growth has dried out and increased our fire danger, requiring us to limit the use of campfires, barbeques, or portable stoves, or to require a permit. With everyone's cooperation, we can prevent the large wildfires that we have experienced over the years in this region. Reducing the threat to private property and the fragile desert ecosystem is of the utmost importance." Raml said the restrictions are officially referred to as Stage I covering BLM managed areas, and Stage II, covering “State Responsibility Areas” (SRA). While Stage I Fire Restrictions apply to BLM lands in the California Desert, Stage II Fire Restrictions apply to SRA in Kern, Inyo, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties. (Please refer to Fire Restriction Map on the CDD website: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd.html.) Stage I restrictions allow campfires and barbecues with a permit that can be obtained at all BLM field offices and fire/ranger stations, or from patrol personnel. Stage II prohibits campfire and barbecues outside developed recreation sites. Controlled flame devices such as portable stoves are allowed by permit. Raml warned that while the BLM appreciates the public's cooperation, non-compliance results in serious penalties by law. Any person convicted of knowingly/willfully violating these fire restrictions can be fined up to $1,000, receive up to 12 months imprisonment, or both. That person also is liable for the damages and suppression cost of the wildfire. For more information or to obtain a permit contact the BLM’s California Desert District Office at (951) 697-5200 (951) 697-5200 --BLM--California Desert District 22835 Calle San Juan de Los Lagos Moreno Valley, CA
